The Cliff House Backs Award Winning Trolley & Bus Service for 2007

The national award winning Shoreline Explorer service, a public-private network of local trolleys and buses connecting coastal York County, was pleased to receive some major financial support from a local business,

Kathryn M. Weare, Owner/Innkeeper of the Cliff House Resort & Spa, stated at the launch of the Shoreline Explorer, “Travel connections between Kennebunkport and York were a popular means of transportation for residents and tourists alike in the early 20th century via the electric trolley system. This is an idea whose time has come and come again...Hooray!”  “We are honored to have The Cliff House Resort & Spa back ‘on-board’ for the second year as a Platinum Sponsor. Their ongoing sponsorship of the system is critical to the local match needed for the multi-town system”, said Connie Garber, Transportation Director for York County Community Action Corp.

Support for the Shoreline Explorer comes from local Chambers of Commerce and business community, town officials, the Maine Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). York County’s unique network of public and private trolley and buses, which provides alternatives for seasonal travel along Maine’s southern coast, was awarded the FTA Administrator’s Award for Outstanding Public Service in October 2006. In its first summer season the system carried over 44,000 riders, and expects more riders in the 2007 season.

The Shoreline Explorer, ready to roll out this year on June 23rd, will expand hours of service on the existing Shore Road Shuttle route connecting Perkins Cove to York Beach. The added evening hours will make it even more convenient for vacationers and local residents to reach popular York County destinations without searching for parking or driving in summer traffic.  Riders can connect to the many shopping, dining and amusement destinations from York to Kennebunkport.

York County Community Action Corporation is the administrator of the service which connects the communities of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Wells, Sanford, Ogunquit and York on the following routes:
- York Trolley, serving the Town of York and York Beaches, one of the private operator partners;
- The Shore Road Shuttle, connecting Perkins Cove to Short Sands in York; This year, the last run has been extended to 9:45 pm;
